
Understanding the Advantages and Technical Uses of Capillary Tubing
Precision Tubing Applications
Capillary tubing is usually manufactured with fine precision, down to one thousandth of an inch. This precision allows airflow to be smoother, more uniform, and more closely monitored, making such applications as fluid & air restrictors much more useful. Capillary tubing has very small inside diameters (e.g. .026 to .175 inches).
Why the Close Tolerances?
Getting mediums uniform in tubing is dependent on close tolerances, which capillary tubing is designed to accommodate. The ability to track the flow of a given medium is easily hindered by slight inconsistencies in other tubing types supplied with larger tolerances. For this reason, while capillary tubing will see a decrease in its cost because of its lower weight (since copper tubing is sold by the pound), it may have a slight increase of cost per pound because of the tight tolerances. In many industries, higher tolerances equals higher costs.
Get Capillary Fittings & Tubing
Should you prefer, capillary tubing can be provided cut to straight lengths or in coils with no secondary operations. However, full service capillary tube coiling is available, including full service machining and fabrication, upon request!
